What We Treat
At Elk Ridge Recovery in Northwestern Montana, we provide evidence-based addiction treatment and dual diagnosis (co-occurring) care for adults. Our team treats the full continuum of drug and alcohol addiction alongside mental health disorders, pairing medical expertise with Montana’s nature-supported setting and vocational skill building. Whether you’re searching for a drug rehab in Montana, alcohol rehab, or a dual diagnosis treatment center, our goal is the same: stabilize, heal, and help you build a purposeful life.
Substance Use Disorders We Treat
We offer, residential inpatient treatment, and step-down care (PHP → IOP → OP) for a wide range of substance use disorders, including:
Alcohol Use Disorder — comprehensive treatment and 24/7 clinical support with individualized recovery and relapse-prevention planning
Opioid Use Disorder — fentanyl, heroin, oxycodone, hydrocodone, and other prescription opioids; medication-assisted treatment (MAT) options (e.g., buprenorphine, naltrexone) when clinically indicated
Benzodiazepines & Sedative-Hypnotics — medically managed, gradual taper strategies for safety
Stimulants — methamphetamine, cocaine, and prescription stimulants (focus on craving management and cognitive/behavioral recovery)
Cannabis Use Disorder — addressing motivation, sleep, anxiety, and mood regulation
Hallucinogens & Dissociatives — LSD, psilocybin, ketamine, PCP; care focuses on risk reduction, mood stabilization, and integration support
Inhalants & Synthetic Substances — synthetic cannabinoids (K2/Spice), synthetic cathinones (“bath salts”), kratom, and others
Polysubstance Use — integrated protocols for overlapping withdrawals and relapse patterns
Prescription Medication Misuse — gabapentinoids and other medications taken outside prescribed guidance
Detox alone isn’t treatment. We transition clients into residential inpatient and Partial Hospitalization (PHP) to continue therapy and protect early progress.
Co-Occurring Mental Health Conditions
Addiction and mental health are often intertwined. Our dual diagnosis program treats both together for better outcomes. Common conditions we address include:
Depression (major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder)
Anxiety disorders (GAD, panic disorder, social anxiety)
PTSD and trauma-related disorders (including complex trauma)
Bipolar spectrum disorders (I and II)
ADHD (adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
OCD and related conditions
Personality-related challenges (e.g., borderline traits) using DBT-informed approaches
Sleep disorders, grief/adjustment issues, and stress-related conditions
Our psychiatric providers offer medication management, while therapists deliver CBT, DBT, EMDR (as appropriate), motivational interviewing, and relapse-prevention—all within a trauma-informed, dignity-first model.
Integrated Treatment Approach
Levels of Care
- Residential Inpatient — structured daily therapy, nature-based and experiential work, family involvement
- Partial Hospitalization (PHP) — full-day treatment without overnight stay
- Intensive Outpatient (IOP) & Outpatient (OP) — flexible schedules for real-world reintegration
Core Modalities
- CBT to identify triggers, restructure thinking, and practice new behaviors
- DBT skills for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness
- EMDR to process trauma and reduce reactivity (when clinically indicated)
- Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) options for opioids and alcohol (buprenorphine, naltrexone; methadone via referral partners)
- Family therapy & education to repair communication and set healthy boundaries
- Vocational & life-skills coaching to build routine, confidence, and job readiness
- Nature-supported practices (mindfulness, movement, guided outdoor activities) that reinforce nervous-system regulation

Special Considerations
Chronic Pain & Addiction: Coordinated care plans balance pain management with recovery goals.
Polysubstance & High-Risk Use: Layered relapse-prevention, overdose education, and safety planning.
Suicide Risk & Safety: Thorough risk assessment, safety planning, and hospital partnerships when higher acuity is needed.
Cultural & Community Sensitivity: Collaborative care with families, employers, and community partners when appropriate.
When We’re Not the Best Fit (We’ll Help You Find One)
Some conditions require a different level or type of care before admission to our programs—such as unstable medical conditions, acute psychosis, primary eating disorders needing medical stabilization, or imminent risk that warrants inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. If that’s the case, we’ll help coordinate an appropriate referral and support a warm handoff back to Elk Ridge Recovery when safe.
